I need a good recipe for sweet potatoes or Yams for Thanksgiving dinner?

I usually make mine with brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and marshmallows; but this year I would like to do something different. Any ideas?

I used a pecan syrup (the kind they make for pancakes) one year, it was very good, just poured that over the peeled and cut-up sweet potatoes (about a 2 inch chunk), then baked them in a casserole dish covered with foil.

I normally just bake them (unpeeled), split them and butter them, then mash them a bit with a fork on my plate, I’m not fond of sweet stuff on my sweet potatoes/yams.

Here’s a highly unusual and unique sweet potato recipe.

    Sweet Potato Flan

2 medium garnet or jewel sweet potatoes
    3/4 cup sugar
2 14 oz. cans sweetened condensed milk
    10 large eggs
    2 cups milk
    1/2 teaspoon allspice
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the potatoes for one hour. Allow to cool. Peel and mash. Sprinkle some sugar in a ten inch cakepan. Cook over medium heat, shaking, until the sugar begins to melt and brown. Remove from the heat. Place half a cup of the sweet potato in a food processor with one can of sweetened condensed milk, five eggs, one cup of milk, and half the spices and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into a large bowl and process the other half of the recipe.

Pour the mixture in the sugar-coated pan and cover with foil. Place this pan inside a larger pan and pour 1/2 inch of hot water into the large pan.

Bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour and fifteen minutes. Remove the pan from the double boiler and run a knife around the edge to release the flan. Cool for half a hour. Place the flan in the refrigerator for eight hours or more. Loosen the flan from the pan again, then invert onto a plate for serving.
