Eat in shifts. We use to let the men eat first and then the ladies sat down and ate last and chatted while the men were watching TV. You could also throw down an old blanket and let the children picnic in the floor.

Don’t focus on being perfect. No one ever gets things "perfect", and they usually make themselves and everyone else miserable trying. Focus on being happy and close enough.

Make whatever you can a few days ahead of time, so you just reheat it the day of. Put out some games and activities for the kids, and assign the oldest child the honor of entertaining the younger ones. Order in some dishes instead of making everything from scratch. Put up a sign-up sheet with specific hours and tasks so everyone can contribute some labor (under your direction), and include at least one or two "clean up shifts." Or leave everything in the sink and hire a maid or neighbor kid to come in the next morning and clean everything.

If there is no room at the table for the kids, set up a "tee-pee" fort for them in a corner of the room using some old sheets and chairs and pillows, and invite the little "Indians" to come visit the "Pilgrim feast". They can get served buffet style, and enjoy a good messy time in their tent while the adults enjoy a regular meal. You should be able to squeeze 5 at a table for 4 if you move some of the dishes to a side table.

Go to your local retail store like a Walmart and they have the small folding tables in stock that can be used for this occassion. When you get through just fold it up and put it in the closet until you need it again. Also you can get a nice table cloths so everything will match.

See if one of the neighbors has a folding table you can borrow because the kids will have food all over your home if you dont.
