Does anyone have good Thanksgiving recipes they can lend to me?
I’m 19 and my family’s been really indifferent towards holidays for a couple of years now. They resort to buying store-cooked turkey and other Thanksgiving foods, and I’m not a fan of doing that. I want to cook Thanksgiving dinner myself this year (for the first time). What foods does your family like, and what are the recipes for them? I’m making the following for sure:
-turkey
-mashed potatoes
-macaroni and cheese
-vegetables
What else would be good? Please help! I want to impress my family.

Some things we do (or have done):
1. Carrots with butter and brown sugar
2. Sweet potatoes with marshmallows
3. Green bean casserole
4. Cranberry sauce (use mini cookie cutters to make it pretty)
5. Pumpkin or Butternut soup
6. Tossed salad
7. shrimp cocktail
Don’t forget dessert:
1. Apple Pie
2. Cheesecake
3. Pumpkin or Pecan Pie
Don’t stress – pick a few things you think everyone will like and make them special.
Being together to share good food and company is what matters!
GOOD LUCK and have fun!

Google any of the above for receipes.
I’m making Thanksgiving dinner for the first time too! (In Germany… so ingredients are hard to find…) Since I’m sharing with friends from around Europe, I’m sticking with a very "traditional" menu – maybe you’ll see something here you like.
Green Bean Casserole (recipe on the fried onion can)
Don’t forget the gravy with your turkey!
Sweet Potato Casserole (recipes all over the place online – make sure you use one with marshmallows!)
Cream corn (again, just do a Google search and pick the recipe you like best)
Homemade cranberry sauce (12 oz bag fresh or frozen cranberries, 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar – boil until you like the consistency! Couldn’t be easier…)
Desserts:
Pumpkin Pie
Strawberry Pretzel Salad (ok, maybe not typical for everyone… but for me it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without it. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Judys-Strawberry-Pretzel-Salad/Detail.aspx)
