How can you decorate for Thanksgiving?

I love decorating. You should see my house for halloween and christmas. But what should I do for thanksgiving? I have this stuffed beanie baby turkey I use for the centerpiece at dinner but I wanna do more and decorate the living room and stuff. Any suggestions? Best answer 10 points! =]

I would suggest going to your nearest department store, or where ever you would usually go to buy decorations, and they should have an entire section on Thanksgiving decorations. I got most of mine from Ross.

Think pilgrims, sailing ships, crops (ears of corn, pumpkins), native americans, and leaves. I decorate with a table cloth (tan/red/brown/orange with a design of leaves, flowers, turkeys, pumpkins, turnips, potatoes, apples), I put pilgrim shaped candles as a centerpiece, a dish cloth with a turkey design on it for the kitchen, a string garland with little glittery turkeys hanging from it wrapped around the floor lamp post in the living room.

I may add some Christmas lights tacked along the wall in the hallway – maybe red and orange colored lights wrapped around each each so the colors alternate.

You could also print up a couple turkey pictures from online and hang them on the wall, or write “welcome” on one of the pictures, get it laminated, and hang in on the front door.

For something quick and easy, go out to your yard or nearest park, and fill a tasteful ceramic bowl with some fallen leaves, and place the bowl on the bathroom or kitchen counter, or wherever still needs some decoration.

Have fun feeling festive!

Please give me your best Thanksgiving dinner recipe?

I made an early Thanksgiving dinner last weekend because we had family come into town. I want to make a nice dinner on Thanksgiving but I am burnt out on the normal thanksgiving meal. So I was hoping to pick up some new recipes from my friends on Y/A. What is your favorite way to make the turkey, or what’s the best dessert? Do you have a favorite wine to go with dinner? I’ll take anything as long as it’s yummy. Nothing with nuts*allergy’s*:(
Thank you so much and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

This is a recipe for a pumpkin roll that I have been making for years! It is absolutely delicious….try it….you won’t be disappointed!

Granny Kat’s Pumpkin Roll

“This moist rolled-cake has a rich cream cheese filling. Serve it cold. This will be a hit! It has a pinwheel look.”
————————————–…
PREP TIME 20 Min
COOK TIME 15 Min
READY IN 55 Min

INGREDIENTS
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 cup pumpkin puree
3 eggs
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup confectioners’ sugar

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch jelly roll pan or cookie sheet.
In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking soda, and pumpkin pie spice. Stir in pumpkin puree, eggs, and lemon juice. Pour mixture into prepared pan. Spread the mixture evenly.
Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 15 minutes.
Lay a damp linen towel on the counter, sprinkle it with confectioner’s sugar, and turn the cake onto the towel. Carefully roll the towel up (lengthwise) with the cake in it. Place the cake-in-towel on a cooling rack and let it cool for 20 minutes.

Make the icing: In a medium bowl, blend cream cheese, butter, vanilla, and sugar with a wooden spoon or electric mixer.
When the cake has cooled 20 minutes, unroll it and spread icing onto it. Immediately re-roll (not in the towel this time), and wrap it with plastic wrap. Keep the cake refrigerated or freeze it for up to 2 weeks in aluminum foil. Cut the cake in slices just before serving.

Alternative Thanksgiving dinner ideas?

I have been invited to a friends house, they eat fish or strictly vegans diets. I wanted to bring a pasta salad but can’t find a good recipe online. Can someone give me a good seafood/veggie dish to bring for thanksgiving dinner.

Look up seafood salad online … very good stuff.

What special sides are you planning for thanksgiving?

Thank you for the pie recipe!

Side dishes are always interesting to make.
This year I am making a nice banana salad.
So simple;
Cut bananas in to wheels.

Add strawberry flavoured yogurt and mix carefully.
Make just before serving to avoid blackening of the fruit.

Also,
My family likes a potato salad, so I am making some this year as a side item, and for sweets, here is a very special recipe for you to try;

Heat water en 25 ml margarine until boiling point. Put spoonfuls of dough in to water. Cover with lid and allow to simmer for 15 minutes. Do not lift lid while dumplings are cooking

Thanksgiving themed games and activities?

I am in a class and we have to lead 40 minutes of activities and games. We are doing a Thanksgiving theme. Anyone have any suggestions of Thanksgiving themed games or activities? Thanks!

Not sure if it is an event for children or adults, but you could do a turkey bean bag toss. Use ice cream buckets. Make the bean bags out of felt, cut into the shape of a turkey and sew together leaving a small hole to fill with rice, corn or whatever and sew small hole shut after filling, you could also do pin the nose on the pumpkin or pin the feather on the turkey….like pin the tail on the donkey. Also musical chairs works to songs of thankfulness. Good luck
