I need a good recipe for sweet potatoes or Yams for Thanksgiving dinner?
I usually make mine with brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and marshmallows; but this year I would like to do something different. Any ideas?
I used a pecan syrup (the kind they make for pancakes) one year, it was very good, just poured that over the peeled and cut-up sweet potatoes (about a 2 inch chunk), then baked them in a casserole dish covered with foil.
I normally just bake them (unpeeled), split them and butter them, then mash them a bit with a fork on my plate, I’m not fond of sweet stuff on my sweet potatoes/yams.
Does any one have any good ideas for a vegetarian main dish for Thanksgiving dinner that children will like.?
Yes..
I made this for Halloween and not having been a Vegetarian for long myself I wasn’t certain how I would feel. But it was very enjoyable and not that difficult.
‘Chicken’ and Mushroom Duxelle en Croûte
For the Mushroom Duxelle:
1/2 cup vegan margarine (try Earth Balance brand)
4 Tbsp. chopped shallots
2 fresh garlic cloves, minced
1 lb. fresh assorted mushrooms, chopped
Dry white wine sufficient to deglaze
1 1/2 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
1/2 tsp. chopped fresh rosemary
1 1/2 tsp. chopped fresh thyme
Salt and pepper, to taste
3/4 cup soy milk
• In a heavy sauté pan, melt the margarine and sauté the shallots for 3 to 4 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté until lightly browned.
• Add the mushrooms and sauté for 10 minutes, stirring frequently, then reduce the heat and simmer until all the moisture has evaporated. Deglaze the pan with the white wine.
• Add the parsley, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper and continue to simmer for 1 to 2 minutes. Add the soy milk and stir until incorporated. Adjust the seasonings. Allow to reduce, stirring frequently, until thickened enough to be used as a filling.
For the Mirepoix:
2 Tbsp. vegan margarine
1/2 cup diced onion
1/4 cup diced celery
1/4 cup diced carrots
1 lb. vegan chicken strips, chopped (try Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Chik’n Strips)
Salt and pepper, to taste
• Melt the margarine in a small saucepan over medium-low heat and cook the vegetables, stirring often, for about 5 minutes. Stir in the vegan chicken.
• Continue cooking until the vegetables are tender but not browned. Season with the salt and pepper and set aside.
To Assemble:
1 box puff pastry sheets
1 Tbsp. vegan margarine, melted
• Preheat the oven to 350°F.
• Lay out a sheet of puff pastry on a lightly greased baking sheet. Spread the mushroom duxelle on top, leaving the edges clean. Top with the mirepoix, then roll up and transfer to a lightly greased baking sheet, seam side down.
• Spread the melted margarine over the top. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly browned.
Makes 4 servings
I used Soy Gluten with Shiitake Mushrooms 8oz package from Havista instead of the fake chicken strips.. found it at my local Chinese Market. Also I didn’t have all the herbs but added more thyme.
It turned out excellent and reminded me somewhat like a mushroom meat stuffing pastry dish. Liked it so much I’m going to make again for Thanksgiving.. or might wait until Christmas. But definitely again. Also made Creamy Chive Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Potatoe Pie and a few others from the site I’ve provided!
Everything was delicious!
What should I do for Thanksgiving dinner?
What should I do for Thanksgiving dinner? My mom is out of the country and she’s the person who always makes the food. I’m only a 12-year old so only simple recipes please. Oh, do you think I’ll be able to cook a turkey?
Call Wal-Mart and ask about their Thanksgiving pre-cooked meal. I think it’s only about $60 and has a turkey and a bunch of sides already cooked, and you just pick it up. Where is your dad, hon? He should be worrying about this, not you!
Prep ideas for Thanksgiving Day?
Iam hosting Thanksgiving Dinner at my house this year , i would like for some to share some ideas, recommendations, on what i could do to prepare for the big day ! Share some recipes that i can make the day before , and still taste as good on Thanksgiving !
well just make sure not to invite people that start conflict, becasue ive argued with people and been to dinners where people argued, and that is prolly the biggest dinner killer. when u have a nice dinner and everyone leaves happy, u have a sense of pride like it was ur doing and ull feel good inside, i know that sounds gay, but ive gone through that.
for dinner heres one of my fav recipies
use fresh everything here no cand crap
2 (12 ounce) packages frozen French cut green beans
8 ounces crimini mushrooms, quartered
3 tablespoons butter, divided
1 small onion, halved and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 pinch ground black pepper
1/2 cup milk
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 (2.8 ounce) can canned French fried onions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Place green beans into a saucepan and fill with about 1/2 inch of water. Bring to a boil and steam until beans are tender but still bright green, about 5 minutes. Drain and toss with the mushrooms. Set aside.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and parsley; cook and stir until onion is tender. Whisk in flour until blended, then mix in the lemon zest, salt, and pepper. Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly, so that no lumps form and then stir in sour cream. Warm over medium heat until the sauce begins to bubble. Dump in the green beans and mushrooms, stirring to coat.
Remove from the heat and toss briefly with some of the Cheddar cheese and French fried onions, saving some of each to sprinkle over the top. Spoon into a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish and top with the reserved onions and cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese melts, about 15 minutes.
this is prolly my favright casarole, i have pride in making it myself 😀
What do you think of these recipes for Thanksgiving?
This year, I’ve decided to make a vegetable side dish and a dessert for Thanksgiving dinner? What do you think of these two dishes? Have any better suggestions that would "wow" my family?
Vegetable Casserole:

Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake:

I would change the vegetable casserole for green bean casserole. It is not Thanksgiving at my house without it. Your dessert sounds wonderful. Have a happy Thanksgiving.
what does your thanksgiving dinner consist of?
I need ideas for my thanksgiving dinner. I need everything from dinner to desserts.I made a menu but I feel like it’s not enough i think i forgot a lot of stuff that is usually served for a traditional holiday dinner. help please!!
turkey
this mexican pastry called flan
potato salad
biscuits
mac and cheese
What are some other types of turkey i can use for thanksgiving dinner?
My friends and I want to make a thanksgiving dinner that is cheap and still good. We don’t have time to cook an entire turkey. Does anyone know of any other turkey recipes that don’t take too long and isn’t that expensive? What other "forms" of turkey can i buy at the store to use rather than the whole bird?
You can buy and roast a turkey breast or try turkey parts – legs and thighs or breasts and wings; turkey medallions – bake them on top of some stuffing like you would chicken.
Ideas for a Thanksgiving dinner?
I need some ideas for a dinner that´s going to happen this month. We have an international school program and need to present something. Someone please???
The class is a mix of nursery, pre-k and k! Thanks a lot!
Should add that we are in Brazil…it´s spring hot weather here…so is a good idea something more "light", ok? Thanks a lot"
For a light thing that my family always does on Thanksgiving is ambrosia (fruit salad).
Ambrosia:
Can of mandarin oranges
Can of pineapple chunks
Mini Marshmallows
Sour Cream
All you do is drain both fruits, add about half the bag (or more/ less if you want) of marshmallows, and then eyeball how much sour cream should go in (should coat all the fruit and marshmallows).
How many people serve baked Macaroni and Cheese at Thanksgiving dinner?
I never heard this before until someone mentioned how they couldn’t wait for it, then someone else entirely asked me if I had a good recipe for my dinners, and of course, never heard of it! OUr family saves mac and cheese for the summer BBQ Holidays like Memorial Day and July 4th! So who has this side dish during Thanksgiving?!?
ME,ME,ME….I just love homemade mac&cheese..see it can’t be out of no box it has to be homemade with three cheeses and let it bake for about a hour and a half..it’s truly the best and I make it every year and folks looks forward to it,,
I am announcing that I am pregnant to my family on Thanksgiving (not at dinner). Any good fun, creative ideas?
We are announcing to my family when we visit on Thanksgiving night for pie.
You should cut out a small, extra slice of pie. One for yourself, one for the baby. Put them on seperate plates and sit down with them. When someone asks, tell them that it’s one for you, one for the baby.
Then, let it roll from there.
😀 Good luck!
